A History of 4010 Lake Street
Before it became the unique event space it is today, 4010 East Lake Street lived many lives—each adding character, charm, and a little bit of grit to the building you see now.
It all started in 1920, when construction began on this modest structure with a $4,600 budget. Its first tenant, Scherling Manufacturing Co., ran both a workshop and a retail space for plumbing and electrical supplies.
In 1924, the space took a cleaner turn—literally—when Lake Street Wet Wash Laundry opened with just a few upgrades (including a $300 steam boiler). The laundry stayed in operation, through three different owners, until 1938.
The building then welcomed Ermantraut Food Products, a local staple that delivered baked beans and other comfort foods across Minneapolis. In 1948, it was rebranded as The Boston Baked Beans and Chili Company, staying put until 1967.
After a quiet decade, the building saw a brief revival in the antique world, serving as a storefront and annex for a couple of vintage shops—including the charmingly named Owl and Pussycat Antiques.
Then in 1984, it underwent major renovations for Carver Wood, a workshop known for crafting hand-built wooden furniture—bringing a fresh wave of creativity and craftsmanship to the space.
Today, this historic building has been thoughtfully modernized into a one-of-a-kind event venue. With its industrial roots and rustic character still proudly on display, 4010 East Lake Street is now a space where new stories are made—whether you're hosting a wedding, party, or gathering of your own.
